Search Console Generative AI Report: What It Shows (2026)
Search Console has a dedicated generative AI report. It shows how often your pages appeared in Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode, broken down by page, country, device and date. It does not show clicks, click-through rate, average position or search queries. Clicks from AI features still count in the regular Performance report, but you cannot filter them out there (Crawlraven explains the clicks gap). This is the position as of October 2026, and Google may change it.
Google's own help pages could not be opened while we wrote this, so the details below come from third-party write-ups and search summaries. Check each point in your own account before you act on it.
What the report counts
The report counts impressions. An impression is one time a link to your site was shown inside an AI answer, according to third-party quotes of Google's help text. WebFX's guide describes the report as impressions only.
What you can and cannot answer
| What you want to know | Where to look | The limit |
|---|---|---|
| How often AI answers showed a page | Generative AI report, by page | No clicks, no queries |
| Clicks from all Google results | Performance report | AI clicks cannot be split out |
| Which queries triggered the AI answers | Nowhere in the AI report | Query data is excluded |
| Whether visitors contacted you | Your own analytics or inbox | Not linked to Search Console |
The last row matters most for a service business. An AI impression tells you a page was shown. It does not tell you whether anyone called, messaged or filled in a form.
Here is a made-up example to show the problem. Suppose a service page has 1,200 AI impressions and 40 clicks in the Performance report over the same three months. The AI number says the page appeared often. The 40 clicks do not say how many came from AI answers, and the report gives no way to split them. Whether that page is working depends on the enquiries it brings in, which you have to measure yourself.
Where sources disagree
- Clicks. WebFX says the report shows impressions only. SEOteric says it includes impressions, clicks and average position. The more specific and more recent account is impressions only, but we could not confirm it from Google.
- Launch dates. Some write-ups say the first launch was June 3, 2026, and we could not confirm that date from Google. Google's wider rollout is reported in Search Engine Land's coverage, but sources give different days for it in August 2026.
- Older advice. Earlier Search Engine Land reporting said AI Mode data would sit inside the normal Performance report and could not be broken out. That came before the dedicated report, so treat it as outdated.
How to read your own numbers
- Pull the generative AI report for the last three months and note the pages with the most impressions.
- Pull clicks and impressions for the same pages from the Performance report. Compare trends over time. You cannot isolate AI clicks, so do not expect the two reports to add up.
- Look at pages with many AI impressions and few clicks. One reading is that the AI answer already gave the basic facts, so the page did not need a click to be useful. That is an interpretation, not something the report proves.
- Look at pages with no AI impressions too. The report cannot tell you why they were left out, so compare them with the pages that did appear before you change anything.
- Track enquiries in the tools you already use: calls, form submissions and WhatsApp messages. Search Console cannot link AI impressions to them.
What this means for a Nepal business
We did not find any Nepal-specific data on how this report behaves for Nepali sites, and the write-ups we read were written with global or US sites in mind. A low AI impression count does not mean a site is invisible. For a local business, the enquiry count is usually the number that matters most.
Good tracking also depends on the site itself. If each service has its own page, the enquiry buttons are easy to find, and the contact details are consistent, the numbers from every report are easier to act on.
